Hair Loss in Young Women Apr 4, 2013

posted by Larry Information

Hair loss is an issue that is most often thought to primarily affect middle-aged men. In reality, however, hair loss is becoming increasingly more common among young women- and it can start as early as the teenage years.

What Causes Hair Loss in Young Women?

Hair Loss can be caused by a variety of factors*, including (but not limited to):

  • Thyroid conditions
  • Iron levels
  • Menstrual cycles
  • Dietary factors
  • Hormonal factors

In addition to the potential causes listed above, some forms of alopecia can be brought on by pregnancy and/or after child birth.

Every situation is unique; the cause of hair loss in one young woman may not be the same cause in another. For this reason, it is important to seek medical attention from your doctor if you are experiencing hair loss.

When to Seek Treatment

Regardless of the cause of hair loss, choosing to seek treatment in the early stages will give you more options for restoration. When caught early, thickness may be able to be restored without the use of surgical techniques or non-surgical hair replacement systems.

What you may be Feeling

Hair loss can be a devastating problem to face, especially for young women. It is common to feel anger, frustration, confusion and even despair. If you are a young woman experiencing hair loss, you may have reduced self-esteem, and feel as if you don’t want to do the things you used to enjoy. All of these
feelings are normal. Choosing to seek treatment as soon as possible will help you get the answers and information you need to move past hair loss and regain your confidence.
