At Hairfax, we use a realistic approach to hair loss. By now, you have likely been exposed to information from other hair restoration clinics that would lead you to believe that surgical procedures can give you a full head of hair, just like you had when you were 15.

Depending on your stage of hair loss, this expectation is both unrealistic and misleading, and here’s why:

Hair to be transplanted to the front or top of your head (areas which are likely experiencing some degree of loss) is harvested from the back of your head. There is only so much hair that can be removed from the back of your head and remain unnoticed. Depending on your stage of hair loss, there may not be enough donor hair available to restore your hair to its adolescent density.

In your initial FREE consultation, Larry will discuss your solution option(s) based on your current stage of hair loss, desired outcome and other important factors. Whether your best option for restoration is a surgical procedure or a non-surgical procedure, Larry will take the time to walk you through the process, ensuring you are fully comfortable with your choice prior to moving forward.

Your health and safety are our number one priority. Hairfax Atlantic is one of few hair restoration clinics in North America who requires full CBC preliminary blood work, done on-site, as well as full disclosure of current medications prior to performing any surgical procedure. Certain medical conditions and medications can either be contributing factors for hair loss or limit your qualifications for safe surgery.

Come in and talk to Larry. You’ll be glad you did.

Early Indicators of Hair Loss

The first true indication of hair loss is shrinking hair follicles. Of course, this cannot be seen with the naked eye. What you may notice is that you hair doesn’t look or feel as thick, likely in certain areas.

If hair follicles are miniaturizing, they will continue to do so until they eventually fall out. You may find that you notice more hairs than usual coming out in the shower, your hairbrush or on your pillow.

Once a hair has fallen out, it cannot be re-grown. However, miniaturized follicles can be re-thickened, thus restoring density to your hair.

Using an Activ8 ScanHair device, the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada, Larry can show you close-up images of your hair and scalp, allowing you to actually see any miniaturized hairs.

Factors that Increase the Risk of Hair Loss

If you are someone who has oily hair, scalp and/or skin, you are likely at an increased risk of hair loss. This is because sebum (the build-up of oil on the scalp) can clog the area around your hair shaft, causing constriction which leads to miniaturized follicles and eventually hair loss.

People who enjoy an active lifestyle may also be at an increased risk of hair loss. This is because a large amount of activity increases testosterone levels in the body. Testosterone produces DHT, which attacks hair follicles causing miniaturization and eventual loss.

Likewise, people who take testosterone supplements to help “bulk up” at the gym are also at an increased risk of hair loss.

Early Detection

If you suspect that you may be experiencing hair loss- even if it doesn’t seem “that bad”, you should not let it go. It will progress. Early detection gives you more options, including preventative treatments that can help you maintain the hair you have and also re-thicken shrinking hair follicles.

The earlier you seek help, the more options you will have for restoration.

Hairfax is pleased to offer a free, no-hassle consultation to help you understand hair loss and find a solution that works for you and your lifestyle.

The dos and don’ts of hair loss

Do: Talk to your doctor or hair restoration specialist (such as Hairfax) as soon as possible. Early consultation allows for more treatment options.

Don’t: Get caught up in hype. You cannot re-grow hair that has already fallen out. You can take steps to re-thicken thinning hair and prevent further hair loss.

Do: Know that you’re not alone. Hair loss is a common occurrence, especially in men, and more common in women than you may think. Many of the staff at Hairfax have experienced hair loss for themselves
and are happy to share their stories with you. We understand what you’re feeling.

Don’t: Try to treat yourself. Many self-treatment options are meant to be used in combination with other products, but do not clearly indicate this. For example, using a vassal dilator (such as Rogaine),
without a DHT blocker (prescription required), can actually speed up hair loss.

Treatment options

At Hairfax, we offer many treatment options. Your stage of hair loss and desired results will help us determine which option is right for you.

Preventative: If you are just starting to lose your hair, or noticing a reduction in thickness, and would like to maintain the hair you still have, while re-thickening already thinned hair, we may recommend the
Activ8 treatment system.

Non-surgical: If you are a young man or a woman in the early stages of hair loss, a non-surgical solution may be the best option for you. Our non-surgical solutions are made from real human
hair matched to your shade, thickness and texture, giving a 100% authentic look and feel. They are offered in permanent, semi-permanent and removable options. The permanent option allows for
swimming, blow-drying and intense athletic activity.

Surgical: If you are in the later stages of hair loss and are looking for a fully permanent solution, we will likely recommend a surgical procedure. Our surgical procedures combine numerous transplantation
techniques, to replace your lost hair with your own healthy hair from the back of your scalp, to achieve a natural look. Our surgical procedures are virtually painless and transplanted hair begins to grow
within 90 days. You will never lose transplanted hair because the hair from the back of your head has a different genetic composition, which is not susceptible to the effects of DHT.

Wigs: If you suffer from temporary hair loss due to illness, nutritional or hormonal imbalance, a wig solution is often your best option. Our wig solutions are available in a variety of colours and styles,
synthetic or human hair. They are the only real option for complete hair loss.

How does hair loss happen?

While there are some medical conditions which can cause hair loss, the majority of people who experience it are suffering from something called “male pattern baldness”. Although the name sounds gender-specific, male pattern baldness affects both men and women, in different patterns.

What causes hair to fall out?

In most cases, the culprit is DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a bi-product of testosterone found in the blood stream. DHT attaches to hair follicles, slowly restricting the opening at the scalp and thinning hair strands, eventually causing the hair follicle to die and fall out. Sebum (a build-up of oil on the scalp) clogs the area around the hair shaft, also restricting the area around the hair follicle and contributing to
hair loss.

What can I do to stop it?

There are many different treatment options available, depending on your level of hair loss. If you are in the early stages, you may wish to opt for a preventative treatment, which simply allows you to keep the hair your still have. If you have progressed to a later stage of hair loss, there are various surgical and non-surgical options available.

What should I do now?

As with most medical conditions, the sooner you seek treatment the better. If you catch hair loss in its early stages, there are more options available to you.

Hairfax offers a free, confidential, no obligation consultation. Larry will show you a close up image of your scalp, so you can see exactly what is happening. Depending on your stage of hair loss, possible
contributing factors, and desires for hair restoration, we can recommend a customized treatment plan to suit your needs.

Activ8™ is a line of products designed to re-thicken thinning hair and prevent further hair loss. Each product contains at least 8 active, “naturally-derived” ingredients that are clinically proven to dissolve and remove DHT build-up in and around the hair follicle.

DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a bi-product of testosterone found in the blood stream, is the leading cause of hair loss in both men and women. DHT attaches to hair follicles, slowly restricting the opening at the scalp and thinning hair strands, eventually causing the hair follicle to die and fall out.

When used consistently, Activ8 works to inhibit the production of DHT.

The Activ8 hair loss solution consists of six treatment products, as follows:

Cleanse- Removes DHT and other scalp sebum build-up. Also contains anti-itching, soothing ingredients that sanitize the scalp. PH neutral.

Shampoo- The only daily shampoo product formulated to remove DHT and scalp sebum, while cleansing hair and scalp, with naturally-derived ingredients. PH neutral. Sulfate, alcohol & paraben-free.

Condition- Amino acids, natural herbs and proteins provide exceptional detangling, elasticity and moisture balance to the hair. Shown in clinical trials to increase hair fullness up to 10%. Also contains ingredients to remove DHT and sebum. PH neutral.

Nutri-NT- The only natural botanical vasodilator on the market. Contains hypoallergenic ingredients formulated to dilate blood vessels. Soothes scalp and delivers natural antioxidants while dissolving build-up around hair follicles.

Nutri-MX- Contains the only material approved by the FDA to stop hair loss. Antioxidants, antiseptics and amino acids work together to stimulate cellular activity.

Intensify- A supplement which combines vitamins and minerals to promote healthy hair.

The 8 active ingredients in the Activ8 treatment line are:

Saw Palmetto Extract- Commonly known for its ability to inhibit DHT, which ultimately manifests itself in the form of a sebum build-up in and around hair follicles on the scalp.

Panthenol, Vitamin B-5- Clinically proven to increase the diameter of hair shafts by up to 10%. Vitamin B-5 provides moisture retention for the hair and scalp, and is scientifically proven to stimulate cellular metabolism, necessary for every living cell to grow and survive.

White Willow Extract- Dissolves the accumulation of scalp sebum and debris, and frees the hair follicles of any restriction or blockage, allowing healthy hair to thrive.

Nettle Root Extract- A natural anti-itching agent.

Birch Extract- Provides soothing and healing qualities.

Arnica Extract- Has the ability to penetrate the scalp and provide healing and soothing benefits.

Witch Hazel Extract- One of very few naturally-derived preservatives, found in plants.

Activ8 formulas do not contain any harsh synthetic material. There are no waxes or “film-forming” ingredients. When Activ8 products are combined as a complimentary line of treatments, you are providing the best possible environment to promote healthy hair.

Hi Larry, I just wanted you to know that wearing this hair system has been an awesome experience. I used to jump out of the shower and my fine hair would be dry in minutes, not anymore now I have the option of drying and styling my hair.

I have probably looked in the mirror more in the past few days than I have in the past few years. I was so miserable at the image looking back at me….different story now, I’ve even put a small mirror in my desk drawer just to keep a close eye on my hair.

The reactions at work have been very interesting, people that I only see every couple of weeks are saying “Oh my I love what you have done to your hair!” Another coworker that I have daily contact with said “look at you with your hair colored, straightened and styled.” Later that day I see her again and she is still trying to find out who styled my hair.

My daughter loves it and really loves my new mood which I must admit is a huge improvement! My 5 year old son wasn’t quite sure what to think at first, he thinks I look a lot like his Aunt and she has nice thick hair.

I just have to thank you from the bottom of my heart on making this an awesome experience and changing my life in such a positive way.

Regards, Lori Butler

I would be willing to discuss the hair system procedure with other people who are deciding if it is right for them. You can get my phone number from Hairfax.

After years of thinning hair and a receding hairline, I was at the point where I did not want to look at myself in the mirror. It was then that I decided to visit Hairfax. It was so comforting meeting with Larry and discussing my concerns. I was paranoid about my hair loss, I could not look at people and I didn’t want people behind me in store lineups fearing they would notice my thinning hair. I was able to discuss with Larry what hair replacement options were available and what would be my best option, I made my decision to wear a custom hair system integrated with my own hair and I felt transformed. I love to shake my head now and feel my hair, I feel confident, I smile and make small talk with people in lineups. I like myself now and am so happy with the decision I have made. I am worth it.
