Early Indicators of Hair Loss

The first true indication of hair loss is shrinking hair follicles. Of course, this cannot be seen with the naked eye. What you may notice is that you hair doesn’t look or feel as thick, likely in certain areas.

If hair follicles are miniaturizing, they will continue to do so until they eventually fall out. You may find that you notice more hairs than usual coming out in the shower, your hairbrush or on your pillow.

Once a hair has fallen out, it cannot be re-grown. However, miniaturized follicles can be re-thickened, thus restoring density to your hair.

Factors that Increase the Risk of Hair Loss

Do: Talk to your doctor or hair restoration specialist (such as Hairfax) as soon as possible. Early consultation allows for more treatment options.

While there are some medical conditions which can cause hair loss, the majority of people who experience it are suffering from something called “male pattern baldness”. Although the name sounds gender-specific, male pattern baldness affects both men and women, in different patterns.

What causes hair to fall out?

In most cases, the culprit is DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a bi-product of testosterone found in the blood stream. DHT attaches to hair follicles, slowly restricting the opening at the scalp and thinning hair strands, eventually causing the hair follicle to die and fall out.
